Damak, November 30:
Normal life in the nine districts of eastern Nepal was paralysed today due to the two-day strike called by the Federal Limbuwan State Councli-Palungwa.
The affected districts are Sankhuwasabha, Terhathum, Dhankuta, Morang, Jhapa, Sunsari, Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung.
The FLSC-P said the strike that began today was called, as the government did not implement the five points of agreement reached with the latter earlier this year. Phagohang, general secretary of FLSC-P, said all the sectors, including transport and markets except the educational institutions, were closed. No public vehicle except two-wheelers and rickshaws plied in major areas of Jhapa district. Damak, Birtamod, Kakarvitta and Dhulabari remained shut.
The FLSC-P wants the government to declare Limbuwan state on the basis of ethnicity, provide compensation to the kin of those killed and compensation to those injured in course of Limbuwan agitation. It has also been demanding FLSC-P’s representation in the State Restructuring Committee. A report from Panchathar said the vehicles heading to Ilam, Jhapa and Taplejung districts from Phidim had been stranded due to the strike.
The strike also hit life in Sunsari district. People living in Itahari, Hansposa, Khanar, Jhumka and Dharan were affected by the strike. Transportation was halted and markets remained shut.
Hundreds of passengers heading for the east from Kathmandu have been stranded in Itahari since early morning. The educational and business organisations were also badly affected.
FLSC-P head Sanjuhang Palungwa demanded implementation of the agreement reached earlier this year, scrapping of state restructuring ministry formed against the spirit of interim constitution and demanded immediate resignation of state restructuring minister.
