National Youth Volunteers Conference (NYVC)

Volunteerism

Volunteerism is backbone of civic engagement. Volunteerism is more important in the young age
of every person's life as its gives confidence as well as a clear picture of culture, society and
the community where they are living. Volunteerism also provides civic skills and that ultimately contributes to the development of the society. In conclusion volunteerism is way to make person's life meaningful from all aspects and notion for betterment in personal as well as communal life.

The Conference

It is planned to coordinate and jointly organize a youth volunteer conference with more than two dozens of organizations. The aim of this volunteer conference is raising awareness among young people about volunteerism and to bring the issue of youth volunteerism in the mainstream of national politics. It has seen the high possibility of productive youth volunteerism in the context of new Nepal as they should be the part of whole nation building process and they need to have contribution at least a couple of month of their time for volunteering work before, during and after their school, college and university life.

In this regard this concept has been designed to gathering around 150 young people from colleges, universities and organizations of Nepal, who believe, respect and promote volunteerism.

Objectives

To provide policy feedback to the government, policy makers and political parties for promoting youth volunteerism in Nepal.
To raise awareness among young people about the importance of youth volunteerism in the context of new Nepal
To share and exchange of information about the existing practices of youth volunteerism in Nepal
To build up network among active youth volunteers working for the cause of human rights and other social issues

Activities

A. Community, District and College Level Discussions
1. Around 20 discussions throughout the nations in the initial phase.
2. The findings and outcomes of the discussions will be raised in the national conference.
3. The following key questions will be discussed throughout whole process of the conference:
- What is volunteerism?
- What are the sectors/agendas of volunteers in Nepal?
- What types of policy have to be made? Policy recommendation.

B. National Conference
Following will be the key activities of the conference:
1. Exchange of Experiences about the status of
youth volunteerism in Nepal
2. Plenary sessions on volunteerism in different
sectors i.e. social, corporate, political
3. A plenary session on government initiation for
promoting youth volunteerism in Nepal
4. Display from the volunteer groups about
their action towards civic engagement
5. Policy discussion and recommendation on promoting youth volunteerism in Nepal
6. Exhibition

Participants

There will be altogether 150 participants. The key participants of the conference will be the following;
Youth volunteers
College and University Students
Youth and Student Political Leaders/activists
Youth Engaged in community service
Youth engaged in corporate sector
Representatives of National Planning Commission of Government of Nepal
Representative of other government ministries
UN Volunteers
Representatives of college and university administration
Media

Important Notes:

1. For organizers - Any organizations can contact the conference secretariat or organizers if interested to become the organizer of this conference.

2. For participants - Any volunteers, students or individuals can contact the conference secretariat for being the participants. You have to fill-up an Application Form which can be downloaded form Youth Action Nepal official website or you can get it directly from the secretariat. The participant must be compulsorily nominated by the institution affiliated to.

3. Spaces for participants are limited (first come first), so please contact as soon as possible.
